The Cedar Lounge Revolution

That latest poll from RedC, released last weekend, is well worth a quick look. The headline figures are as follows:

Among the political parties, Sinn Fйin has consolidated its position as the second most popular party behind Fine Gael, gaining one point since last month to 19 per cent.

Sinn Fйin is now five points ahead of Labour, which falls by one to 14 per cent, and two points ahead of Fianna Fбil, which gains one point from last month to 17 per cent.

Fine Gael is by far the strongest party on 32 per cent, though it sees a two-point fall from last month. Independents and others gain one point to 18 per cent.

A couple of thoughts suggest themselves. First let’s consider that the Independent/Other vote remains, a year into this government, remarkably – almost historically – strong. That this is reflected in other polls is telling. The…
