The failed former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith has launched an arrogant attack on the Sunday Express crusade to save coalition MP’s jobs, by saying government ministers just sit around drinking coffee all day.

In a heartless outburst, the Work and Pensions Secretary said he wanted to save money by making more senior Tory and Liberal Democrat MPs redundant and getting them into “proper jobs”.

The shameless snub on government ministers came after the Tories and Liberal Democrats were battered at the ballot box in elections across the UK.

He delivered the insult in a face-to-face confrontation as the Daily Express delivered more than 15,000 “Save Coalition MPs Jobs” signed protests from our readers. Editor Martin Townsend and political editor Kirsty Buchanan along with House of Commons employee Nadine Dorries were waiting in the lobby when Mr Duncan Smith strode through with his wife Betsy.
