Well done to my team Dumbarton FC for holding out against an Arbroath onslaught yesterday to qualify for the first division play off final. Sons will play Airdrie United at home on Wednesday night with a second leg next Sunday at New Broomfield.

I’m fairly surprised that the club hasn’t taken a decision to make the game all ticket. Dumbarton stadium holds 2,000. For a decisive match in the third division in 2002 v Queens Park over 1800 turned up and in an important third division game v Elgin in 2009  nearly 1400 came along with all but around 40 or so being home fans.

This is no third division fixture, it’s a first division play off and whilst it is midweek with fairly typical cold wet May weather forecast, Airdrie is on the train line to Dumbarton.
